Chapter 5 focuses on personality and values. The chapter covers issues, such as how
major personality attributes may predict workplace behavior and the factors that actually
determine an individual’s behavior. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is reviewed
and the Big Five personality model is also discussed. Values may be categorized into
terminal and instrumental values. This chapter will contrast the values in those two
categories. Hofstede’s five value dimensions of national culture are also examined.
Perception and individual decision making are important considerations for
organizational behavior. Chapter 6 examines some aspects of decision making,
including how individuals interpret things differently and how perceptions affect the
decision making process. The unit also introduces the reader to intuition and the
conditions in which individuals are most likely to use intuition in decision making. Finally,
three ethical decision criteria are contrasted.
